nina americana
mine
Tino and I headed out early on a Saturday for the southeastern desert.  Partly for
the ride and partly for the chance to get out of the house.

It was a really nice day to do any exploring out in the desert.  We found several
small mines and then located the main shaft of the Nina Americana mine.

This mine, when it was open, encompassed both open pit and underground
workings.  The mines have been closed for about 5-8 years now.  Some attempt
was made at reclamation but it is still obvious there was a mining operation here.

I had thought I had located the main shaft for this mine but either I was mistaken
or there were two underground mines located here.  The larger of the two shafts is
located to the west of the open pit.  The larger shaft shows a lot more usage than
does the smaller.

However, since this was a riding trip and not an exploration trip, the mine pictures
are of the first 100’ of the main shaft incline.

We’ll be back.
