Crandall Canyon Mine
Huntington, Ut 2007
Coal mine fatality- On Monday, August 6, 2007, at approximately 2:52
a.m., a major coal bump/bounce occurred on the Main West pillar section
trapping six miners. All four entries were rendered impassable approximately
2,000 feet outby the section. Underground rescue/recovery efforts were suspended
on August 16, 2007, when a bump/bounce fatally injured three rescue workers.
Air samples collected through boreholes drilled from the surface indicated an
irrespirable atmosphere. Bore hole cameras showed coal and debris filling the
entries near where the trapped miners were thought to be located. All
rescue/recovery work was suspended on August 31, 2007.
6 fallen miners & 3 of their rescuers
